Dark Rose is AROMU’s deeper interpretation of a rose essential oil candle, led by Mohong Rose and geranium essential oils. Rather than recreating rose with synthetic fragrance oils or parfum, Dark Rose is scented exclusively with natural essential oils.
That distinction matters. Many rose candles are designed around a rose fragrance accord. Dark Rose takes a different approach: real botanical rose material sits at the center of the scent, giving it a richer, more natural character with a grounded finish.
What is Mohong Rose?
Mohong Rose refers to the dark red rose associated with Mohong in Yunnan, China. In Dark Rose, it provides the candle’s distinctive rose character: rich, velvety and botanical rather than powdery or candy-sweet. Geranium essential oil supports the floral profile while adding freshness and balance.
Dark Rose should not be confused with a Rose Otto candle. AROMU specifically identifies the rose material used in this candle as Mohong Rose.
What does Dark Rose smell like?
The core impression is deep rose, botanical floral and grounded. Mohong Rose remains recognizable at the center, while geranium, soft woods, resin and a quiet earthy depth keep the fragrance from becoming overly sweet.
Before lighting, the floral aroma is concentrated close to the wax. During the burn, the rose character opens into the room and becomes more integrated with the deeper botanical notes.
Real rose essential oils vs rose fragrance candles
“Rose candle” does not necessarily mean that a candle is scented with rose essential oil. Many candles use fragrance oils or parfum to create a rose-like aroma. Dark Rose is different: it is scented exclusively with natural essential oils and contains no synthetic fragrance oil or parfum.
This makes Dark Rose one of the few rose candles scented exclusively with natural essential oils that we found when reviewing the Canadian and U.S. market. We intentionally use “one of the few” rather than claiming that it is the only rose essential oil candle available.
Who is Dark Rose for?
Choose Dark Rose if you love rose but want something more botanical and less perfume-like, or if avoiding synthetic fragrance is important to you. It is also a strong choice for shoppers who normally find conventional rose candles too sweet, powdery or overtly romantic.

Bedrooms, living rooms and intimate evening spaces are especially good matches. Dark Rose works well during dinner, reading or a quiet night at home when you want fragrance to contribute to the atmosphere rather than simply make the room smell floral.

Burn time and candle care
Dark Rose is a 7 oz / 200 g AROMU essential oil candle, hand-poured in sage green glass with a premium coconut-based plant wax blend and cotton wick. Expected burn time is approximately 40–45 hours. Trim the wick before each use, allow enough time for an even melt pool, keep the candle away from drafts and flammable materials, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
